ING New York City Marathon/Philadelphia Marathon Training Log – 9/17/13

in Race Prep
I’ve decided to keep a training log as part of the blog. These posts will be pretty short and really just a historical record so I can go back and look to see how I was feeling during a particular part of my training. I tend to have a very short memory and beat myself up if I feel like I did poorly on a particular run or race until I go back and look to see how I did at the same time the year prior  – it tends to be pretty much the same.

I ran the NYRR Marathon Tune Up two days ago. It’s an 18 mile run that I use to determine my fitness for the NYC Marathon.

I finished in 2:32:33 – two minutes off last year’s time. While I was initially bummed about not beating last year, I changed my tune after thinking about it. The major difference between this and last year is last year I remember my quads being sore for two days after the race. I was also worried that I had peaked in my training and that the race wasn’t going to go well (turned out to be moot since the race was canceled due to Hurricane Sandy).

Nothing was sore – to say I was shocked doesn’t begin to cover it. I did take yesterday off but only as a precaution to keep from developing a random injury.

I went out this morning to test my legs and wound up running seven miles. Granted I did the flat run I usually reserve for recovery, but still . . . I managed a 8:06 overall pace.

I’m pretty happy with the shape I’m in. I just need to be able to maintain it so I can run two marathons in November!
