Let’s Make a Video Together

in Running Life

While looking back over my videos from the past year, I was thinking that this is the time of year that I ramp up my NYC Marathon content. And not just videos, but blog posts, social posts and videos. I’m basically a one man marketing machine for the race.

But I’m okay with that because it really is one of the best days of the year.

I think Alec Baldwin put it best in this ad from the 2012 race (at least I think it was 2012):

TBH, I’m a little sad that the race isn’t happening. And I know, there’s a “virtual” race that I could participate in, but, well, that’s not my speed.

So I started thinking about what I would miss about the race. There are myriad things that I won’t be able to see, touch, feel (emotionally) and smell (maybe a good thing considering porta-potties).

And then I started thinking that you’re probably having the same thoughts.

Let’s make a video together

And then it struck me, why not ask you to film yourself telling the world what you were going to miss most about the race. I’ll edit it together and we can all have a cathartic viewing experience.

In order to make this work, there need to be a few ground rules.

  1. Only one item per entry. I know there are a lot of things we’ll all miss, but I ask that if you’re going to submit that you just choose one thing.
  2. Stick to the NYC Marathon. It’s sad that none of the fall marathons are happening, but I want to focus on NY.
  3. Keep it short maybe 10 seconds maximum.
  4. If you want your name or social handle to be on your video, please spell it out (I’ll edit that part of the video out, don’t worry). Don’t assume because your name is Bob Smith that I’ll know how to spell it, for all I know, it’s Bohb Smythzes 🙂
  5. Please make sure there is a light in front of you, not behind you.
  6. Film this on your phone, hold it horizontal or vertical, I don’t think it matters.
  7. Look at the camera on your phone, not yourself on the screen (this makes it look like you’re talking to the audience and not looking past them).
  8. If you can adjust the settings, please film in 4K at 60fps. 1080 at 30fps at a minimum, but nothing smaller please.

Once you record your video, please send it to me using WeTransfer.com. Send it to me (eric at dirty old sneakers dot com).

How does a deadline of 10/15 sound? I think it sounds fair.

Can’t wait to see what you’re gonna miss!
