in Running Life

Contrary to popular belief, I actually love to ride my bike.

Red Hook CritIn fact, when I started my fitness journey almost 11 year ago, I started out as a cyclist.

You can see a little more about that here in one of the first videos I created.

Anyway, since my son was born, cycling has become more of cross training as I just can’t take eight hours out of a weekend to do an epic ride anymore.

Cycling is also a way for me to get around NYC, you can see more about that in another early video I created.

Red Hook CritThe my commuter bike is fixed gear, meaning that it’s got only one gear and if you stop pedaling, you stop moving. I find that is super simple to maintain, easy to lock up and because it’s a beater, no one will want to steal it (or at least, not many will want to steal it).

I’ve become fascinated with fixed gear and track bikes and wandered out to Red Hook a few years ago to watch one of the premier track bike races, the Red Hook Criterium.

It’s an incredible feat of bike handling and nerves of steel. Check out what I mean.
