26.2 things I've learned running 15 marathons
Ryan Hall speaketh the truth
  1. You have to start somewhere.
  2. The right sneakers can make or break your run.
  3. Training plans are more than mere suggestions.
  4. It’s okay to not follow a training plan 100%.
  5. Getting up before the sun never gets easier.
  6. Running a marathon is actually good training for running a marathon.
  7. Not everyone wants to hear about your running exploits.
  8. Learning about “on course nutrition” is a vital aspect of your training.
  9. Drink before you’re thirsty.
  10. Part of your training is learning to ignore the pain.
  11. Speaking of pain, get to know your danger zones (alternatively titled, Lube is Your Friend).
  12. Black toenails are a point of pride.
  13. Cross train, strength train, cross train.
  14. And stretch after you run.
  15. Accountability partners are great.
  16. But sometimes music can be better.
  17. Compare and despair.26.2 things I learned running 15 marathons
  18. Having more than one goal is a good idea.
  19. Time doesn’t really matter (unless it does – see #18).
  20. Crowds are a huge help.
  21. Speaking of crowds, put your name on your shirt.
  22. Nothing new on race day.
  23. Compression for recovery after long runs is your new best friend.
  24. It’s easier for you to find your friends than the other way around during a crowded race.
  25. Show off the hardware you’ve earned!
  26. The finish line is really only the beginning.
